3rd International Conference on Sustainability in Hydropower
2 – 5 September 2025, Vienna, Austria
As the global energy landscape undergoes transformation, hydropower continues to serve as a vital pillar of the energy transition, offering renewable and flexible electricity generation and storage. Striking a balance between economic efficiency, ecological integrity, and community well-being has become increasingly important. SUSHP2025 will convene leading experts, researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals to explore innovative solutions for ecologically sustainable hydropower, biodiversity conservation, and the governance challenges inherent to sustainable development—particularly in the context of developing regions.
The conference will center on three key thematic areas:
- Integrated Planning and Operation: Promoting comprehensive approaches to the planning, operation, and repowering of hydropower plants that enhance environmental and community outcomes while maintaining economic viability and operational performance.
- Innovation and Adaptive Management: Showcasing best practices, technological advancements, and environmental measures designed to evaluate and mitigate the impacts of hydropower development.
- Governance and Policy Frameworks: Examining strategies and institutional frameworks for sustainable hydropower governance, with a particular emphasis on policy development and implementation in emerging economies.
SUSHP2025, organised by Hydro4U project partner BOKU, offers a distinctive platform for interdisciplinary dialogue, knowledge sharing, and professional networking. The conference aims to engage academics, practitioners, and policymakers alike in meaningful exchanges that contribute to shaping the future of sustainable hydropower.
Hydro4U project partner CARTIF will also be part on the topic of Hydropower and water management: Hydropower in the context of the Water – Energy – Food Nexus.
